The weight of living
When life is going well and times are peaceful, everyone is on their best behavior. Polite, well mannered and kind to each other. But the older I get, the more I realise that it is in turbulent times when we have the opportunity to see what people are really made of!
I am not referring to massive catastrophes or death of someone close to us, these are exceptional circumstances and none of us would cope well. I refer only to everyday stress, pressure at work, whining children, family overload, or in other words: LIFE.
If you really want to know the type of person you are dealing with, catch them one hour before a meeting with the board of directors, or when they are facing an important deadline. More often then not, you will find that the really nice person you met previously has magically turned into a less attractive version of Chis Brown or John McEnroe.
Life is full of high pressure moments and we need to learn how to function under the weight of life. Each of us have issues: money problems, children who don’t listen, unfair parking tickets, horrible mother-in-laws, and the list goes on. A true leader is she who maintains her integrity and compassion under everyday stress. A truly inspiring person is he who will not be crushed under the weight of living…because that person understands that even though life may feel exceptionally heavy at times, it remains part of the life experience.
To my incredible family.
